Day 34 of 50: I am entranced by Angélica Negrón, Puerto Rican-born composer, and her “La Isla Mágica” for double-bass and pre-recorded electronics (written for Eleonore Oppenheim).
Listening to “La Isla Mágica,” I feel myself falling down a rabbit hole of Renaissance gold, shimmering on all sides with lotuses unfolding and butterflies alighting. Down, down I ago, past bemusing wind spirits, chuckling sweet grass, and stars exclaiming “Good morning!” everywhere… I’m lost in a whirlwind of magic.
