Day 19 of 50: I’m excited by Tania León, Cuban-born composer, and her “Alegra” for wind ensemble.
Listening to “Alegra,” I feel the rhythm enter through the soles of my feet, channeling up and through to my fingertips, and igniting the inner recesses of my mind. The 3 Sisters from Haudenosaunee lore are at once dancing again, cradling apples bursting with incandescent knowledge. Hesperides is alight with the golden rays of the sun and the party doesn’t stop until it sets.
