Day 9 of 50: I’m inspired by Betty Olivero, Israeli composer, and her “Neharôt, Neharôt” for mixed ensemble and tape, written in dedication to the women and children impacted by the devastation of war.
Listening to “Neharôt, Neharôt,” I see silver tears winding their way into gold, dripping into a glittering pool at the base of the mountain. A flood unleashes this burden, building into an avalanche of steep sacrifice and covering a world set on fire with its own brilliance. Which light will prevail?
