Day 6 of 50: I’m inspired by Wang Jie, Chinese-born American composer, and her “In Wind They Cleave” from her chamber opera, “Flown.”
Listening to the soprano and baritone singing “In Wind They Cleave,” I’m torn between past and present. They weave in and out of the other, creating an undeniable flow… yet breakage as well. A parting in legato. Undulating connection stressed by imploring waves and desperate crashes. Perched on a delicate branch that will inevitably snap.
