Day 45 of 50: I am drawn to Farangis Nurulla-Khoja, Tajik-Canadian composer, and her “A Thorn Expands to a Rose” concerto for six voices.
Listening to “A Thorn Expands to a Rose,” I see a pair of lonely flowers lilting through the crevices of the earth until they face each other and meet Silver Lining, beauty blooming at the edges of the earth. What hopes burgeon forth? What dreams crack open at dawn to welcome the new day?
