Day 25: Joy Harjo - My House is the Red Earth

Day 25 of 50: Today, I am lulled by Joy Harjo, Mvskoke composer and 23rd Poet Laureate of the United States, and her song, “My House is the Red Earth.”

Listening to “My House is the Red Earth,” I can’t help but close my eyes as my soul follows the richness of her saxophone song… I find myself tuning into her words and my heart leaps, skips, pitter-patters in time with the rhythm of her voice. Pure enjoyment. As though my mind is sailing far into the distance while her song and poetry converse with me, as if spoken by an old friend and we’re casually on an infinite stroll. My soul, heart, and mind “become three crows at the edge of the world… laughing!” (© Buffy Sainte-Marie).
