Day 11 of 50: Today, I am inspired by Mariana Villanueva, Mexican composer, and her “Kratu: Visiones de la Muerte: El Combate” for two flutes and 3 percussions.
Listening to “El Combate,” I’m immediately transported onto a battlefield by the sea. The warriors who stand beside me are not of this Earth; they emerge from deep within the soil, rising from the ancient Mesopotamian underworld of Irkalla. Wielding spells that billow to and fro like amorphous shadows, they unfold into a shield like guardians around a treasure. Who is my enemy?
